‘Yahko’ translates to ‘I sympathize with you’ in Bambara, a Saharan dialect largely spoken in Mali and other West African nations. This dress is inspired by The Blue Men of the Sahara, a multi-ethnic, nomadic group that inhabits the region. The fabric is dyed in traditional indigo, with hand-painted patterns.
The final product does have lining beneath the bodice and sleeves for comfort, due to the linen fabric's rough texture. In line with my philosophy on sustainable fashion, this dress is adjustable and accommodates sizes 00-4, as indicated on the size chart in my MFA thesis.
